It would probably be faster to give people the option of a full-on frisk and manual bag search to ensure no dangerous contraband gets into the secure area, but we're back to this nonsense of mission creep.
I did not get RealID in the first place because 1) it wasn't required and 2) it was much more expensive and 3) it required a physical Social Security card.
I have a passport. I've had the government background check for a security clearance. I have a birth certificate.
I have only had one physical Social Security card in my life and it was stolen not long after I got it. I couldn't afford to ask for unpaid time off to go downtown and replace it and the physical card wasn't valid ID, so I never replaced it.
Now, fast forward two decades after TSA started yammering for RealID to make us 'safer' (they've never explained how), suddenly it's for real. I still do not have a physical Social Security card and I think it's pretty clear right now that however easy it might have been to get replacement cards in the past, that is the past and no longer the case.
