The movie opens nationwide one day later, on May 23rd. The Memorial Day weekend is one of the strongest weekends in the year for cinemas since "Star Wars" opened on that weekend in 1977. Iīm sure Delta had not much choice with the date for the event, as Paramount couldnīt go much earlier, both because the movie plays in Cannes one week earlier (and the festivals require that the movie canīt be shown before it had premiered in the festival), and also because of piracy concerns. You want to keep such events close to the release date in case the movie would leak.
