I think the latest Top Gun movie (Top Gun: Maverick) opened over Memorial Day weekend 3 years ago. While it's a busy travel weekend, there's still plenty of people who stay local and plenty of people who visit family and going to see a movie is a good weekend activity even for people not in their home town.
