If you want to go out for a few hours when you arrive then you need a nightlife area because while the hawker places may be technically open (air) most of the stalls will be closed so not a place to experience Singapore at its best at this hour. I’m not an absolute expert in this because my nightlife in SG is limited to the special interest bars and clubs close to Chinatown and I would therefore choose to stay at the Duxton but you’ll probably find Clarke Quay still alive around midnight. The FP is walkable along the river - and it’s safe and quite pleasant - but maybe there’s somewhere closer. Anyone else got a recommendation where the OP will find open bars late night as this is what they’re after. The best hotel for them will follow from this location.

Yeah, those are good thoughts. Although I will likely not sleep much, as I am more of a late night person and have a 17 hour flight when I head back, so am planning to sleep a lot on the plane. So someplace that has late night options along with early morning option would be ideal...though I am also on the verge of overthinking this. Haha
What is the "FP" you refer to along the river?
If the Hawker Centre isn't going to be active late night, then not a likely visit from me. Do they get cranking in the early AM?

Again, great info. Thanks.
I have switched over to the Four Points. Looks like an easy 15 minute walk along the river, so easy to pop out on arrival if I am in the mood to grab some drinks.
Will just plan to chill in the morning, maybe just take an aimless walk before heading to the airport.
Appreciate all the advice and info.
Thank you to the many that provided thoughts and advice. I wanted to report back. I stuck with the Four Points and it worked great. I was carry on only and immigration was incredibly quick. No wait for a taxi and was at the hotel in short order...10:30 or so. Taxi cost was about 35 SGD
I grabbed a quick shower and started on a walk to Clark Quay, but never quite made it. Just a short distance from the hotel and across the river were several open-air bars open, including one showing Premier League matches. That made the decision easy, so stopped and had a pint or two along the river while watching some football. Felt drowsy after the drinks so went back to hotel for some sleep.
Trip back was just as easy. Taxi available immediately at the hotel. 30 minute drive (25 SGD or so fare) and was at the SKL for breakfast before the long flight to NYC.
Room at Four Points was fine. "Upgraded" to a river view room. Bed was comfy. Shower pressure great. Was exactly what I needed for a 35K cert on a layover.
Thanks again for all the great advice.
