easyJet Fearless Flyer Programme: Overview
The easyJet Fearless Flyer programme is a comprehensive course designed to help individuals overcome their fear of flying, whether it stems from general anxiety, turbulence, claustrophobia, panic attacks, or a lack of control. Since its launch in 2012, the programme has helped over 13,000 people, it boasts a success rate of over 95%.
Programme Structure
The course is delivered by a team including a senior easyJet pilot and Lawrence Leyton, a phobia expert from UK TV Channel 4’s “Fear of Flying.” It is structured in three main parts:
• Virtual Ground Course: Participants learn about the technical aspects of flying, including what causes various noises, how turbulence is managed, and the safety protocols in place. The session also covers psychological techniques to manage and interrupt fear, stop panic attacks, and address related phobias such as claustrophobia or fear of heights.
• Pre-Flight Online Session: This one-hour Zoom session allows participants to meet the team, walk through the airport experience, and ask questions. It provides practical advice and reassurance before the experience flight.
• Experience Flight: The highlight of the course is a dedicated one-hour flight from a UK airport, with live commentary from the pilot and support from the Fearless Flyer team. This flight is designed to put new coping strategies into practice in a supportive environment, with the option to bring a companion.
