FWIW, we like to have a muffin and coffee at around 6 am out on the balcony in order to get on with our day (not stuffed) starting with yoga or Pilates and think the free drinks more than make up for paltry breakfast offerings. But that we don’t want anything heavy that early doesn’t discount some very legitimate concerns.
The Sheraton breakfast across the Island is good, particularly as it’s been our experience that “it’s continental, but you can have whatever you want.” Even so, preferring the Wailea side and the, IMHO, much more aloha-esque vibe at the Beach Resort, we usually forego a better breakfast even with the Beach Resort being more dear of a redemption. Obviously, YMMV.
Regarding upgrades, a wise person on this forum said to “pay for the upgrade you need.” But not being that smart I never have and in maybe 8 five-night standard awards all but one have been really nice upgrades. Last week we were in 7329 overlooking the beach and the luau. It wasn’t a suite, but it’s a sweet spot and I’m wondering if because people might shy away from the performance noise it opens up that section to upgrades. I’ve marked that area for future reference if we don’t get upgraded to a suite.
Finally, as I mentioned on the Hawaii thread, there’s a Maui happy hour app that you can use to keep your drinking expenses down to a dull roar. Well, maybe not that dull.
Problem is those breakfast options don’t work at all for those of us with dietary restrictions. To my family, a pastry is nothing better than a piece of cardboard. Fruit is ok for the children, but useless for my me or my wife.
