On UA my credit card is stored in my MileagePlus account profile.
For me, on the very rare times I make an onboard purchase, it just involves the FA just checking my seat and confirming my identity [name] and no swipes or taps are needed.

My expectations were so low when I made the request I was bracing myself to settle for a Tapas box
(which probably also would have been depleted).
And even though this was the smaller 737-700 with the ~114 seat back cabin, the vibe was more 'impulsive tourist class/Spring Break/Spring holiday' than poised and advance-nourished biz traveler. Maybe the chicken parm was the thing and I missed out
