Yes, close-in domestic saver awards to these popular gateway cities are almost as scarce. Searching from gateway cities would normally result in better availability, but I've also found instances (not close-in awards) where prepending an AA segment actually uncovered a JL award that didn't show up otherwise (as though they were married segments on two different carriers).

I was talking about transpacific flights from East Coast/Midwest more generally, not limiting to just JL flights.

From the West Coast, you also have SEA and YVR. There is availability from YVR every day through May 1st, some days as many as 6 seats.

Yes, I've also found availability in general from Canadian cities is much better, relatively speaking.
