I'm interested in the free standby (too bad no free confirmed same day change). How does one standby for a later flight though, just tell the gate agent at the original flight that you're not going to board and to be put on standby for the next one?
You have to request standby at the airport, same day of travel, ahead of your flight. It's a request that they do not have to honor. It's only based on availability. If you miss your flight or no-show, they won't add you to the standby list and will require you to purchase a new ticket.

There is, it's just not like other airlines standby lists where you can add yourself in the app or over the phone. You have to do it at the airport. You can check the standby list of any flight here:
