Most J seats give you lots of space to the side but squeeze your feet into a limited space. The Apex seat has less space to the side but has equal width along the length of the bed, meaning much more space to move your feet and legs. I personally prefer Apex. I love having the massive open space in front of me and not having my feet squashed. But some people hate it and prefer having lots of space to stretch out sideways. Only you can decide if you can tolerate the Apex seat and won't be unhappy choosing JL.

Isn't JAL transitioning to the SSIII for the 789s? Are they actively retrofitting the fleet to have the reverse-herringbone SSIII?

Yes, I am familiar with the Apex suite. I have flown KE. I do like the idea of it, but I am not sure I like the execution that I got from KE. First the cabin was way TOO WARM! Second, the padding on the seats were firm. Good for sitting but can be bad for laying down, especially without a mattress pad.

I think the JL Apex suites are narrower than KE, right? I am not tall or stout, by western standards. I think I'll fit well into small-ish seats.
