Reporting back after 2 recent stays and can confirm that elites get the buffet breakfast. Standard offering and quality for a FS hotel in a major city in the US. There is also a menu with made to order options, but that is not part of the elite benefit.
Overall the stay was satisfactory, but do have some quibbles.
Some parts of the hotel are due a makeover, the décor in hallways seemed quite dated. Rooms themselves were fine and bed was comfortable (as expected).
Traffic noise can be an issue if on the N Glebe Road side of the property, especially on lower floors.
Check-in left a bit of a bad taste (on both stays). First sign of trouble was them having to ask if I was a Bonvoy member, which suggests their IT is terrible or they are not paying attention (my # was in the booking and showing on the app)
Upon confirming that I was Bonvoy and LTP, CSR auto applied the 1k points as the welcome amenity (no choice offered). I had to ask if there was an elite Breakfast amenity, at which point they said they assumed I wanted the points, but updated that to give me a coupon to use at breakfast instead. (I never take the points as I only value them at about $5 so even a $10 F&B option is better than points).
Biggest issues was after I check out, when I look at my bill and see a $25 Destination Fee. I had not noticed this at booking (in Concur), so had to go to the website to find out more. Sure enough, there is such a fee, but this was not mentioned at check-in, so was not able to use it. For what its worth it covers $25 F&B, 2hr Bike share, entry to Arlington Cemetery and other places, daily Cocktail for 2, and the usual wifi, phonecalls etc. For sure I would have used some of these benefits, so not happy.
Pretty scammy that they did not mention this at checkin, thus giving me no opportunity to avail of it. Junk fees are bad enough but this really left a bad taste.
Same routine on the next stay regarding lack of info about the destination fee. I had to specifically ask about the destination fee at the end of checkin process. Agent suddenly remembered and went into a backroom for 5mins to dig out a coupon for the $25 F&B credit. I then asked about the cocktail aspect of the destination fee, but CSR indicted I needed to use the $25 F&B credit for that. I did not press as I was not too bothered about the cocktail in any case. No mention of any of the other things covered by the destination fee, but again I was not going to be using them. I hate when I have to remember crap like this at check-in. Normally I am tired and or thinking of other things, and just want to get to my room with the least hassle possible. If you cannot rely on staff to provide this info at checkin, then create a print out that can be handed to the guests, unless of course this is part of a breakage strategy by management.
