Just finished call with AA EP line agent - She said she was "shocked" I got the "your ticket is non-refundable" as it clearly is, and besides was AA cancellation, should have been refunded without question. She said she will take care of it, sent an email direct to Refunds while I was on the phone and assured me the residual value will promptly be refunded to my original form of credit.
Thank goodness the great majority of people I've dealt with at AA are great, since their logistics, IT, mechanical upkeep, crew scheduling ... etc leaves a lot to be desired.
