I've found SDC increasingly hard to use at LHR as there seem to be no staff in check in area able to make the change without lengthy calls to ticketing. And many that have no idea about SDC so its easiest to just say you want to price option for change, and open up the person-in- middle conversation with ticketing. Very frustrating. It remains very easy for non-BA staff to do at GLA, etc...
Bizarrely, when ticketing seemed to be not answering calls from multiple check-in desks (not just mine) a few weeks ago the agent took my word for it that it was a real thing and just made the change - it would all be so much easier if they could see a suitable flag on booking.
When it gets just too farcical I have passed through security with original BP and headed to the small set of desks near A10 which I think are labelled Staff Something. The team there seem to have ticketing ability and knowledge of SDC, AUP, etc - just like the concourse team had a few years ago.
Lounge booth staff can be pretty good as well.
