If someone is doing this to simply extend the date of the credit, it is probably prudent to book something 11 months out and then cancel shortly before the travel date so you effectively make the extension nearly 2 years. If the occasion arises to use it earlier, you can always just cancel the trip at that time and use the credit right away.
