Do you mean (1) you are paying for a commercial ticket with a mixture of cash and miles (2) you are paying for a commercial ticket in full with cash and using miles to upgrade?

If (1), if a commercial ticket is available, you just pay for it.
If (2), upgrade with miles depends on availability.
