I'd first go to Crete for only one reason: winter storms! These last for a day or two, come from the North at a rate of about one per month from November till April and they bring along heavy rains and high (very high!) winds. The results are that they may well disrupt air travel to/from the island and you clearly don't want this to happen when you're booked for your flight home. We (i.e. residents of Crete) are used to that and enjoy staying home on the (very) green island during this time of year .
