I personally don't understand wearing strong perfume and such on an airplane... sure you don't want to be smelly but some people have really sensitive noses, it can cause issues like that and can even cause distress to some people. Ideally you wouldn't want to be trapped in a metal tube with a smell you despise.
Perfumes can make my throat close up a bit and make it more difficult to breathe. Walking through Duty Free at many international airports is never fun.
