Yes, in 2016. I had booked a one-way from my closest suburban New York State office to a Las Vegas casino closest to my hotel. By chance, I checked for a lower rate, and discovered the pick up spot was closed. Customer service offered to match my rate at a location an hour north, in the wrong direction. I called a NJ location half an hour away. Luckily a family member was ok with the longer drive to get me there. The manager agreed to manually customize the rate. When I arrived, the base rate printed on the receipt was double my guaranteed price. Especially since the state taxes were different, it took the manager a while to fix it.
It was suggested to rebook directly, but the rate wasn't worth it. The next cheapest would have been my closest Budget, but still much more than what I planned to pay. Otherwise, it's just so much easier to not choose Hertz.
