Didn’t need it, process was stupid and cumbersome and slow and it cost a lot more for the inconvenience and government-mandated stupidity.
You know, the same stupidity that gives me a passport that is valid government ID for ten years while declaring that an expired DL is no longer valid ID. Fools. ‘Expired’ doesn’t mean I stopped being me, it means I don’t have legal permission to drive.
If the picture on my passport and a one-time application process is good for ten years, then there is zero reason (except stupidity and corruption) that a DL is not valid ID for just as long.

The issue is that many states still offer non-real ID. If they had stopped, this would not have been an issue at this point.
Maybe they shouldn’t have exposed it for the obvious money grab it always was?
I know a surprising number of people who don’t fly because they never have a reason to - until they have to go out-of-state for a funeral or family emergency. If you haven’t flown in twenty years and don’t plan on flying, why go through the hassle and time?
