1. do I book Cork-LHR first and ring BA will they add LHR-FCO segment to the booking?
2. Should I book each segment separately and will BA link them/make them one booking/ticket?
3. If 1 or 2 not possible and I end up with two separate bookings will BA allow me to check bags through to final destination or will I end up collecting bags in LHR to recheck (this will affect the onward flight time I choose)?
While it is technically possible to combine an Avios and a cash ticket onto one PNR (in the sense that the functionality exists in Amadeus), I've never heard of anyone being successful at getting it done, presumably it's against policy.
BA tends to not like "split tickets" like these, for example, they won't check your bags through (and here you have the complication of Aer Lingus actually operating the ORK-LHR leg). You also have to change terminals at LHR after collecting your bags.
To be honest, you're probably better off driving to Dublin and taking a nonstop...sorry to burst your bubble in this way!
