An airline is able to do a lot in a short amount of time with proper training and staffing. Most choose not to anymore. Many here may not recall this, but once upon a time, AS served a hot three course meal (single tray) on Bay/Pac NW services, even OAK/PDX, with enough booze topoffs to please even a twenty-something old ME, along with serving a substantial snack and full beverage service in the main cabin. I'm not suggesting that we could or should return to that. The point is that when there's a will, it happens. Now a days, even in Y+, asking for a second beverage can get a stare of impending death, or an "if there's time."

I suppose if anyone is fleeing WN because now they're all the same, they won't be disappointed on AS.

Even to this day, BA still offers afternoon tea service in club europe on routes like JER-LHR, which is a 35min 175-mile flight. Then there's AF offering a light meal service on a 280-mile CDG-FRA flight in business. At least AS is doing better than competitors in the US. On AA LAX-SEA you'd probably only get snack service in first class..
