Some of the western-oriented tour operators have decent websites with good infos even if you don't do a résa with them for instance China Discovery and some others.
I do realise Google didn;t want to comply with Chinese regulations and departed more than a decade ago. Not much you can do with Google in the PRC, sometimes even if using a VPN. Interestingly, one could access Google at the Mercure in ShenZhen.

Exactly. I am using Google primarily for the satellite maps which is interesting, and then seeing a listing of what places/services are around. Unfortunately not finding much as far as accommodation links go (would these be ont he superapps such as Wechat?) Trouble with researching on a computer and then trying to search on a phone app (and I am currently missing a phone).
