Yep, and they certainly won't be "flying empty planes around," as has been mentioned. They want as much RASM as possible. If the demand for airline seats drops, the airlines will respond by decreasing supply, including by grounding aircraft and laying off employees if it looks prolonged enough.

Of course there will be some time lag in making these decisions and carrying them out, so there will be some good deals in the meantime.
