There is
zero correlation between Google's lack of service in China and the information about China you can glean from it.
As a starting point for researching things to do in somewhere like Golmud, Google and Wiki are both great.
This thread topic is intriguing to me because I often end up going to unpopular places, and I enjoy the planning process.
