That's correct - Moscow used to be a shorthaul on 767/320s until around 2011 I think when both Aeroflot's superior offering and BMIs bankruptcy made BA up their game to 1x747 and 2x777 daily. The offering then got decreased to 1x777/787 and 2x mid haul ex-BMI 321s after Crimea annexation; when the service restarted after the pandemic it went back to being shorthaul up until February 2022.

Back to the OP's original points, I wonder if there is a case for a return of some sort of midhaul subfleet configuration for BA - whilst the likes of LH/LX/OS have hubs that are better positioned for the the eastern European / Middle Eastern destinations, BA has quite a few routes (and is getting more with the likes of TBS) that are 4+ hours long yet get the standard CE service.
