That was my thinking too, particularly on the messing with an IAP booking. I have found that to mostly be the case with any type of Amex booking. Their products such as FHR, IAP are great, but seem to work much better when you know that you will not be needing to change/cancel or otherwise work with the reservation afterwards.
It’s all based on if you want the extra time do to things and not just for the free hotel or discounted overnight . Even paying for an overnight would depend on spending more time or sleep another night in Doha. That’s what we’re deciding due to the see Doha and sleep factor.
