If you have a lot of Amex points and you're not sure what to do with them, you can use them to pay off most or even all of your annual fee.
That's what I just did very recently, because I'm unemployed now, and going to officially retire in a year or so, and wanted to save money.
My main use of Amex points before was for transfers to Hilton, but I still have tons of Hilton points, so I have no need to transfer probably for years to come.
