There are multiple mitigation strategies beyond an outright ban if one is truly concerned. Requiring all power banks to be held by consumers or just not in the overhead bin makes sense to me.

I'm not trying to be rude or dismissive, I want safe aviation, however I don't know how much safer this is truly making aviation compared to how much its an inconvenience to everyone (*crew included! no crew member I have talked to is happy about this)
If you actually read your first post you will see that the rules on Cathay are pretty much what you suggest: powerbanks may not be used onboard and they may not be stored in the overhead compartments. They may be held in hand or placed in the seat back in front of you.

I am wondering how many planes burning up in mid-air would be sufficient for you to regard it as a "Common issue"?
