DL is famous for being a bargain shopper, they bought the C-Series for next to nothing cause Bombardier was desperate to announce a US sale. I suspect the same is happening here, they're getting incredible discounts in exchange for giving credibility to companies (ViaSat, Hughes) that badly need a major airline contract
But DL is “premium.”
This latest update from DL on WiFi Hughes installations lasting until Q4 2026 is a huge blow and means next year, many aircraft domestically will go dark as far as WiFi coverage goes. GoGo will be sunsetting the original ATG systems at the end of this year, which are still used on the 717s and RJs so there will soon be no coverage at all on these aircraft if they aren’t outfitted with Hughes.
Soon, NK will have better WiFi than DL on some aircraft.
