What do you mean by challenging? You call up JAL, give them your award ticket/confirmation number and ask them to add a lap infant. They’ll ask for full legal name, dob, and sex. Then they’ll take your contact number and come back to you with the 10% of cash fare price. You pay the amount and the lap infant is added to your JL portion of the itinerary.
