When UA had RTW flights I think UA 1 went west (LAX-HKG-DEL-LHR-JFK) and UA 2 flew east in the opposite order. I think there was a segment between JFK and LAX but it was not consistently numbered 1 and 2 from memory. In 1999 the RTWs had been stopped and UA 1 ended HKG-BKK.
When I first started flying a lot, ORD->HNL used UA1, for at least a couple years.
