I'm sure I have a few more examples over the years, but here's a few examples I can recall.
OGG- walked to Costco upon arrival. Was on a layover and wanted to do some shopping. Ended up taking a taxi back due to acquisitions.
VCE- tried taking the bus here. Turns out the bus I found was not an "airport" bus and had to walk from the main freeway to the terminal. Sweaty mess as I had luggage I was hauling as well. Cut short my time in the Marco Polo club.

Didn’t technically save any money as I believe the hotel had a shuttle bus.
Reminds me of LAX last year. Stayed at the Ren and walked to the airport (well might have been the free shuttle pickup area; still close). Found out after I think they had a free shuttle. Oh well.
I've also walked from some small airports in Alaska into town. Standouts are ANI, UNK and GAM. Can't recall about OME.
