On the LAX-JFK route: Remember that RUCs will upgrade from main to PS, and if there is space then there may be a PS to D1 upgrade on the day of departure (quite unlikely to clear, though). If there is D1 upgrade availability listed before DoD, then it requires purchase of a PS ticket.
