You can check for standard suite availability by starting to book a room for the required dates (checking "standard rates since it's possible that your corporate rate prohibits suite bookings), and then looking at the list of room types that are offered. If suites are available, they will show up on the list - and the "room description" for suites will note whether it is a standard or premium suite.

Depends... If you aren't traveling with them, and they want free breakfast, then use the guest of honor. [They have a very nice buffet breakfast at the Hyatt Centric Ginza]. Otherwise, not much chance of an 'available suite' upgrade at this property or need for free parking, so I wouldn't use it.

Yes, awards can be - and most often are - applied retroactively. A suite upgrade at the Park Hyatt would be worth more to me than one at the HC Ginza but YMMV.
