I went through ATL customs last February and it took a long time. Yes, we did have to wait a while for our checked luggage. But what took the most time was going back through security. In order to re-enter the E Concourse and gain access to the rest of the airport, it took us more than 30 minutes to make our way through the security screening line. Heck, even if ATL is your final destination, you still have to go through security again.

Perhaps it was a peak time - lots of international flights arriving at once. It was not a lot of fun, particularly for those arriving from long international flights. Makes me think twice about using ATL as my international arrival airport.
