Agreed. This sounds like somebody who didn't look at the boarding pass at all. IME, it's much harder to find the departure time than it is the boarding time, and, of course, the boarding passes will also tell you when boarding closes.
That’s the issue that occurs when an FA announces that some people have tight connections. I wish they’d stop doing that. I’ve met many people who read the boarding time as the time of departure; it can lead to unsightly behavior.
