Of course F existed for a long time before the 747 (first one in 1970).
I (vaguely) remember being upgraded from Y to F on Christmas on a 707 in the mid-seventies. Seats were 2x2 and not so comfy. Food was impressive.

A major revolution was the introduction of business class in 1978, like many other airlines. It was more like PE.
