In the USA room sizes tend to be north of 30mē to 40mē and I'm not exactly sure why rooms need to be that big. Are Americans practising their line dancing before retiring to bed? I supposed if you have a dozen large trunks, beds for a couple of Irish Wolfhounds and a kid's cot then the space will be used up, but I don't think that's a typical travel pattern these days.
The smallest room I've yet stayed in was an 18.5mē twin room with two beds which was perfectly serviceable for two people. That is why I was finding the room size comments disconcerting. I do know that in some rooms we stayed at in Japan skew toward a large bathroom/wet area with a more modest sleeping/living space, which is why I asked about this property in case there was some nuance I was missing.
