Actually I think they did foresee the status matches. One of the reasons they left it to the 2nd last day of 2024 to drop the bomb. It kept the 2025 bookings coming in. If they had announced them even a couple of months earlier a lot more people would have left having then a whole year in the cases of some of the FFP that go on a calendar year starting Jan.1. BA Gold have always been coveted by other FFP in status matches despite BA obviously thinking that the vast majority are no longer worthy of being in their club any more. I'm still happy to walk away completely although I have Gold until Apr.26. 2 more flights and one more trip through TFW left.
