I wanted to get your thoughts on the following:-

My BIL, who is a Spg Gold Member recently spent a weekend in Paris at the Versailles Westin. His fiancee left her passport in the hotel on her departure. He rang the hotel to ask them to post it on to him (from France to Ireland) and they wanted his credit card number to cover the postage !

Is it unreasonable of him (and me !) to expect the hotel to post him the passport FOC ?

I have had phone chargers and other items posted back to me from other hotels around Europe in the past without any charge.
