We really enjoyed our stay at the Grand Universe in 2022. We booked an Aria Junior suite, which was reasonably spacious and nice. No upgrade, but that didn’t surprise me - it is a quite small hotel, and rooms booked up months in advance. I was a Platinum during that stay, and had a free buffet breakfast for two. The breakfast was good - not as extensive as some, but still was good quality and had plenty of variety. We greatly enjoyed staying in Lucca - a charming town without the crowds we found elsewhere. Pisa makes a great day trip by train.
Definitely no pool. The hotel is within the city walls - which have been turned into a walkable, bikeable area on top of the walls, filled with grass and trees. But definitely an urban location - even if the town is small. Plenty of restaurants, and a really nice town to stroll at night.
