Cancellation and rebooking if disabled
Yesterdays unfortunate events got me thinking what happens if my flight is cancelled and I get rebooked? Whilst this is hypothetical (I hope!) it would be useful to know especially as we will be flying JNB-LHR next week
For clarification I am disabled with ME and fibromyalgia as well as other associated conditions. I cannot walk very far (100 yards at a time maybe), I cannot stand in a queue or sit upright for very long without suffering pain and fatigue. I can only fly long haul in Business class as I have to be able to lay down and rest my muscles as much as possible. I get Special Assistance at the airport and can manage as long as all goes to plan.
We usually travel on an Amex 2-4-1 voucher.
My question is should our flight get cancelled would we get rebooked into the same class either on BA or an alternate airline (as I would not be able to sit upright for the whole of a long haul flight) and would we be expected to wait in the airport as I would also have a problem with that (wheelchairs are VERY uncomfortable!). Do BA have any provision for disabled people in these circumstances and if so what should we do? Just for info last year we had to wait 3 hours for baggage at T5 and although I managed to get a seat in the baggage hall the discomfort caused by sitting upright for three hours meant I ended up in bed for three days afterwards. There have been times in the past where I have just laid down on the floor because I cannot be upright any longer - this tends to worry other people and isn't really a good look for a 62 year old lady!
Moderators: please do not move this to the disabled thread for a couple of days as I would like a variety of answers and sadly it will be ignored there. Happy for it to be moved after a couple of days - thanks.
