Courtyards in Asia tend to be very excellent. I'd put them on par with a Marriott or Sheraton.
Courtyards in Europe are hit and miss (and also fairly rare)
Fairfields in Japan, the only non-US place I have stayed in a Fairfield, have no free breakfast (in fact they often don't even have breakfast), though the FF in Sapporo gave me a free breakfast for one night (or 3) because of my status.
