Missed flight due to GRU security scans
Question for the forum. I was transiting through GRU during carnaval last month. Customs was quick after landing and I was feeling good about my 2.5 hour window for my connecting flight to Salvador. Unfortunately, that feeling was short lived as myself and many others found ourselves waiting and waiting for our luggage at our assigned carousel. After about an hour, we inquired with airport staff and were informed that the airport was conducting security scans of all luggage on incoming flights and to expect delays. After 2.5 hours, my luggage finally appeared on the carousel...of course, my flight was gone at that point. Airport staff told me to ask Latam to rebook me, and that it shouldnt be a problem. Being that it was carnaval season, it was in fact a problem, as they had no available seats that day. Mind you, I landed in GRU as 6am. After hussling up and down for a few hours, I was able to secure a flight with GOL airlines for $400.
Does anyone know if I have any recourse in getting any compensation from the airport? I don't expect Latam to be on the hook but I'm open to thoughts, suggestions...
Thanks!
