I can't imagine getting through some places without a paper boarding pass to be scrutinized, annotated, stamped, and scrutinized again by a litany of officials.
I always make sure I have a paper boarding pass, unless I'm on a domestic US itinerary. Saved myself a lot of headache and trouble as a result.
Can someone confirm whether the lack of BP printing is in place for non-US/Canada airports? IIRC, for locations where a paper BP is required, UA would not even allow you to do online/app check-in.
