Took my first AF flight today- and from where I live I’ve honestly got to say I think BA come out on top. For context I got in late and was matched GGL to Platinum. Those with Ultimate it may be better, and my feelings could be explained by effectively going down a tier.
Most impressive was the Platinum Line answering my call by name. That’s very smart and attention to detail that actually helps to defuse situations pre-emptively. But from then pretty useless. No real help in IRROPS tho.
On board- similar tbh, I’m going in an out for 1 meeting on a short haul in one day, and we’ve got a 3 hour delay. At least that’s 250 euros through EU261.
Lounges at CDG are a large step below First and a small step above Galleries. Not comparing to Concorde as not relevant.
For me in particular flight times for connections are brutal (v early start, v tight connections to US), and the delay today really showed that I’d be stranded for at least a night should it all go wrong. Also being based in Europe, arriving somewhere on a tight connection, delayed, and having to do passport control at CDG may actually be worse than LHR. Obvs different with Le Premier, but that’s only to select destinations…
I’ll caveat this now with I’m a 98 GGL, with solid spend, and BA probably trying to make me feel better recently so if you’re Gold- could well be worth it.
As ever YMMV but grass is not always greener. Platinum seems more akin to Silver with a sprinkle of Gold tbh- aside from the phone line answering. I liked that lol.
