My experience as Silver in September 2024 flying the cheapest Y fare: no seat selection was available for free, EVER. Not within 72 hours, not within 24 hours, not a check-in, not at the check in counter, not 1 hour before take off either. It may have since changed, but I had ZERO possibility of selecting a seat or changing my pre-assigned one.
