I definitely wouldn't pay what they want for premium economy in hopes I might be able to upgrade. The difference on those has been only a few hundred dollars so it's definitely not worth the downgrade. My post was mostly that these were astronomically more expensive than it used to be even compared to the past 2 years. I suppose maybe there is demand or that's just their early pricing and they'll come down as prices come down. I found a premium economy redemption for 40K miles that wasn't bad, but then you can't buy up. I'll probably end up booking on another airline since I've found some better prices on others.
They're about the same for me. My trips to FCO and ATH were all $5-6K in J the last few summers.
The last time I paid under $3-4K was GRU and LHR pre-Covid during off seasons.
I haven't seen prices come down much. In fact, they've gone up recently on all of the routes I watch (in case I want to cancel and rebook for a lower amount).
