For Chase and Amex, the chat is a front to a 'Virtual Assistant,' the online equivalent of the automated systems.
I'm calling because I couldn't solve the problem via the app or website, and a virtual assistant isn't going to help.

For the money I spend on the annual fee, answer the phone.
