We will have checked bags, and these are two separate tickets. I have have received very mixed answers as to what this transfer will look like:
- Some have said we will *not* need a Kenyan ETA, though I am worried about being allowed on the flight in London without it, and also have heard we need to enter Kenya to collect our luggage.
- Assuming we get to the international departures area, how will we find our Grumeti Air charter since they dont' regularly operate out of there? Will they assign a gate to our little flight, or do we just call them or something? I have asked the operator and they don't really seem to know.
- If we are in the int'l departure area, it looks like the best option for a nice breakfast is the Simba lounge for ~$40 per person, is that right? Or is there a restaurant we could access that has a good breakfast?
Thanks so much
If you’re using a tour operator, it’s best to coordinate with them directly. Since you’ll be on a charter flight rather than a regularly scheduled commercial flight, your tour operator should arrange for someone to meet you at the gate where the Kenya Airways flight from London Heathrow arrives. This representative should assist you with luggage and facilitate your transfer to the charter flight.
There are several lounges available at Nairobi airport. However, for access to the Kenya Airways lounge, you typically need to be flying with an affiliated airline. Alternatively, there are independent lounges such as the Swissport Lounge and Plaza Premium Lounge, both of which charge approximately $40 USD per person for entry.
If you haven’t yet arranged a tour operator, I’d recommend speaking directly with Grumeti Air to confirm how they will handle on-the-ground logistics at Nairobi airport for you.
